About Us

Shell and Stu Paterson, along with long-time friends Gaynor and Bruce Sim, started The Jollie Biker in 2014. Their passion is to provide both domestic and international travellers within New Zealand, a wonderful adventure, taking in some of the most magical sights that the South Island of New Zealand has to offer.

Meet Shell and Stu

Stu and ShellHaving lived in Twizel since 2007, Shell and Stu Paterson are as local as they come. They know the area well and are equally well known by its residents.

Growing up in the South Canterbury lowlands, a background in sheep and arable farming led to an opportunity to establish a retail and hospitality business in an old woolshed on their farm. After 15 years, the successful Shearers Quarters Cafe & Giftshop introduced a “second cousin” establishment in the High Country town of Twizel, and The Musterer’s Hut Cafe is still operating today.

Commuting between the two cafés led the Patersons to relocate to the Mackenzie High Country – or paradise, as they like to call it. They then decided it was time for a change, selling the Musterer’s Hut café and pursuing their dream of launching The Jollie Biker.  The passion behind this cycle tour company comes from a genuine desire to share this piece of paradise with the rest of the world – and the Patersons believe there’s no better way to soak it all up than on two wheels.

“Our wish is for you to truly take some time to absorb and enjoy everything that the beauty of the High Country can offer you. So sit back and relax as we take care of every little detail from your bikes to your accommodation to your transport and transfers. If we can make sure you are able to unwind and rejuvenate in our slice of paradise – then we know we’re doing something right.”
